Sunderban Tiger Reserve, received recognition as World Heritage Site
by UNESCO in 1987. It has been nominated by Govt. of India (GIO) for
recognition as Ramsar Site (a wetland of international importance for
Birds). Sunderban Tiger Reserve was constituted by GOI under Project
Tiger scheme, in 1973. Sunderban is the only mangrove forest in the
world which is the home of Tigers. Sunderban Tiger Reserve has the
highest tiger population in the world.
Sunderban, the world';s largest estuarine forest covered by mangrove
forests in Gangetic West Bengal. It has most no. of Royal Bengal
Tigers which estimated no. is around 250. Abode of varied flora &
fauna population. Sunderban is bound on the west by river Muriganga and
on the east by rivers Harinbhahga and Raimangal.
Its main wildlife are TIGER, Jungle Cat, Fishing Cat, Chital, Wild
Boar, Rhesus Macaque, Mongoose and the largest Estuarine Crocodiles in
the world, Dolphins. Sunderban is also a place to see birds like Heron,
Egret, Cormorant, Grey-headed Fishing Eagle, White-bellied Sea Eagle,
Seagulls, Terns, 8 types of Kingfishers as well as migratory birds like
Whimbrel, Black-tailed Godwit, Little Stint, Eastern Knot, Curlew
Sandpiper, Golden Plover, Pintail, Pochards, Whistling teal &
Mangrove Pitta.
This forest is also home of variety of aquatic and reptile life forms
that include Olive Ridley sea turtle, hardshelled Batgur Terrapin,
Python, King Cobra, Chequered Killback, Water Monitor and Lizards
including the Salvator Lizards.
Tour Itinerary :-
Day 1 :
Pickup from Howrah Railway Station in morning and transfer to Gatkhali by special NAC Vehicle (Approx 3.5 hrs journey).
On arrival board into Motorised Big Boat. Cruise starts & Jungle
safaris begains for Wildlife & Birdwatching, Photography.
Reach to Resort in Sundarban up to afternoon & check-in rooms.
Post lunch visit Sajnekhali Wildlife Sanctuary & watch tower for Wildlife & Birdwatching, Photography.
Overnight stay in a Resort at Sundarban TR.
Day 2 :
Start early morning Safari in Sunderban Tiger Reserve for Wildlife & Birdwatching, Photography.
Cruise through the creeks and canals of Sundarban in search of wildlife
for entire day (6.00am to 6.00pm). Visit Do Banke and Sudhanyakhali
Watch Tower. Back to Lodge in the evening and overnight stay in resort.
Day 3 :
Start early morning from resort for Wildlife & Birdwatching,
Photography. Cruise through Sundarban Tiger Reserve up to afternoon.
Reach to Gatkhali by boat in afternoon.
Transfer to Howrah Railway Station by special NAC Vehicle.
Tour ends.
